Weddings And New Traditions

We are a team of trained and passionate wedding celebrants based in Yorkshire, but happy to travel beyond. We believe that every wedding should be unique and special, just like the love story behind it. We are here to help you create a personalised and meaningful ceremony that reflects your personality, values, and beliefs. Take a look at just some of the traditions and rituals you can include into your ceremony. Let us be part of your journey to happily ever after!

Handfasting

Handfasting is steeped in history, dating back to 7,000 B.C. until 1745, it was a legal act of marriage in England; in today’s society, it is no longer legally binding.

Instead, it can bring unique symbolism to your wedding ceremony – a wonderful visual memory for you and your guests.

Hands of the happy couple are bound together with ribbon, cord or your own personalised alternative such as plaited reins for those equestrians amongst us.

The binding of hands together represents commitment in an expression of love, with words, poetry or music.

Candle Ceremony

A candle ceremony is a modern, non-religious tradition. This beautiful part of the ceremony brings together the warmth and energy between the couple, or indeed their two families.

The ceremony can involve children and selected guests – it is a special way to represent the blending of families.

Candles are lit and joined together to light a larger candle on both sides of the wedding party. The couple then take their lighted candle and together ignite the unity candle to signify ‘two becoming one’.

Sand Ceremony

The sand ceremony symbolises the inseparable nature of blending two lives and two families in harmony.

It is thought that it was started either by Hawaiians or Native Americans. Originally, the couple would each have simply picked up a handful of sand and thrown it into the wind.

In our sand ceremony sand is poured in turn by the couple or other family members into a shared vessel of your choice. Coloured layers representing the uniqueness of each other’s backgrounds and experiences.

We can support you with the selection of colours for their symbolic meaning, or you may even bring sand from your own travels and adventures!

The fusion of sand symbolises the couple’s commitment to unity and creates a unique piece of art for you to treasure forever.
